Ah the hi-tech, glamourous world of IT. It’s all exciting and vibrant and cutting edge and cool, innit?? Funky offices? Mental challenges roundevery corner? Creative, imaginative eccentrics discussing fascinating things by the coffee machine? People on skateboards? Like it is on TV, yes?

So far this week, I’ve re-written the test code I wrote to test the Actual code I wrote, because the test code didn’t pass our testing procedures. Got that? then I had to integrate someone else’s test code and go through it again.
Then I had to do something about a warning telling me that a variable wasn’t being used. Which is wasn’t. and Isn’t. and Shouldn’t be.
Now, I’m trying to make it build for a platform it’ll never be run on.

At least your company seems to recognise the need to write test software. Some of my senior management seem to think it will appear magically out of the ether, compile and run itself on hardware they haven’t got and that all will be well with the world.
We’re all in the deep doo-doos because all our machines were re-imaged in the last two weeks. No one remembered to tell the poor tekkie-bloke that he should leave one machine well alone, so we could send out bulk mailshots from a crap HR/Course booking system. We’re all flying around like headless chooks to learn a new system, load everything up and still pretend we know what we are doing. But he did us such a favour… round here, nothing gets done on time. This way we will be there or thereabouts for a 1 March deadline. J
ust wish he’d never had to face that stomach churning ‘oh ****’ moment, when you realise you are dealing with complete IT morons (not quite as capable as amoebas) and you have to haul them out of ssssooooo much shit of their own creating….
